An ABA Therapist works as part of a team, alongside the family and other therapists, and is supervised and trained by an ABA Program Consultant/Supervisor. What is an ABA program consultant/supervisor? An ABA Program Consultant/Supervisor would need to have completed an undergraduate degree in a health-related discipline, and/or a postgraduate degree in Psuchology, Speech Pathology or Disability Studies and an internship with a recognised ABA Service Provider, and have spent a minimum of around 2 years experience as an ABA Therapist. Is there an interview process? Yes, there is a pre-course interview prior to attending the ABA Training Workshop. This interview determines your suitability for the training and type of work that you are planning to undertake. You will need to contact ABAlink on (02) 9411 4618 to arrange an interview. On completion of the ABA Training Level 1 course am I definitely guaranteed work placement? You will be interviewed by ABAlink prior to your admission to the training course. On gaining a place in the course and successfully passing the exams, your availability will be placed on the ABAlink database. Families with gaps to fill in their child's program and families with newly diagnosed children are then matched with trained therapists. How many hours a week work should I be expecting? What hours are required by ABAlink once I become a therapist? Is there a minimum or maximum nimber of hours a week required? You may work as little or as much as you like. A child's ABA session lasts for approx. 3 hours and ABAlink would expect you to work two sessions a week, so 6 hours plus commuting times. It is possible to work a full time week of 40 hours, however due to commuting times from one child's therapy session to another's it may be more realistic to look at a working week closer to 30 hours. How do I register? Click on the email link at the bottom of the Training Category. We will send you a Registration Form for you to complete. You will have to print the form off and complete it.Then together with your deposit of AU$200.00 send it by post to the address below or scan/email to enquiries@abalink.com.au : ABAlink & Respite Services How much does the "ABA Introductory Training - Level 1" cost? The cost of our weekend workshop is $450.00. The sum above includes the initial $200.00 deposit to secure your place and GST. Can I pay by cash or cheque on the day? We accept cash, cheque and credit cards to be paid before the course date. When do I need to pay the $200.00 deposit to secure a place? As soon as you decide to register. How many hours a week do I need to commit to the position? ABAlink requires a therapist to commit to a minimum of 6 hours or 2 sessions a week. Is evening or weekend work involved? This is up to you. Weekend or evening work is not compulsory. Is it flexible to suit my University Timetable? Yes, you just need to let us know the times when you are available. Do you have to have a degree or be at university to become an ABA Therapist? No, you do not need a degree to become a Junior Therapist. However it is preferred if you are undertaking study in a related field i.e. psychology, speech therapy, occupational therapy etc., Will I be rostered to only one family, or a number of families, and will this change regularly? This depends on how many hours you are available to work. The more hours you work, the more families and destinations you will need to visit. We try to keep therapists with the same children wherever possible. Is it an hourly rate? How much do we get paid? Yes, we pay by the hour. The rate of pay will depend on a therapists' experience and qualifications. However, as a general rule, therapists's pay ranges from $15.00 (inexperienced) to $25 (experienced) per hour. In addition to this the rate increases incrementally based on a therapist's experience and training. Details of what you may expect to earn as a therapist will be discussed at the iitial introductory evening. Where will I be placed to work? Where are the families located? Our families are located all over Sydney and ideally we will match you with families living in your area. Do I have to accept a placement if it is too far from where I live and will I be penalised? No, you will not be penalised for turning down a placement if it is inconvenient. However you may need to wait a little longer for a family to be located in your area. I am an International Student and can only work 20 hours per week. "Can you arrange it so I can do this?" Yes, we happily employ international students as long as they have a valid working visa for Australia. Will this be considered "permanent", "permanent part-time" or "casual employment"? As a Junior Therapist you will be employed on a Casual Basis. What about insurance, sick leave and work cover? In most instances, families or private organisations hire therapists on a casual basis. Casual employees are not entitled to holiday or sick leave. Therapists employed by ABAlink are covered for workers compensation, public liability their hourly rate of pay plus superannuation. |
